Why “One Gun” or “Three Guns” for TSHTF Is a Bad Idea

We’ve all been part of these discussions, and we’ve all read a ton of them on forums and blogs over the years: “If you could have only one gun for TEOTWAWKI, what would it be?” A more enlightened-seeming variant on this same theme are discussions that start with, “If you could pick only three guns for TSHTF…”

Here’s what’s wrong with so many of these discussions: no matter what flavor of civilization-ending apocalypse you contemplate–meteor strike, supervolcano, global pandemic , EMP blast, etc.–a SHTF scenario is likely to play out in phases, and for each phase you’re going to need a different skill set and a different load-out. You’ll not just need a gun, but a complement of tools and skills.

    One is none….

I’d get 2 identical guns for each application…..

One to shoot and one for parts….

BTW….what are the thoughts on minimum ammo per gun?

The article was pretty good, but not quite the scenario ive seen coming.
Guns n ammo will be good to have
    Food n water a must.
A place to go will be nice.
Most importantly tho, will be friends you can count on. And hopefully, friends that can operate as a unit.
The “enemy”, i dont believe will be roaming gangs of hungry motherfuckers.
The ” enemy” WILL BE U.N. troops that bobo is going to ‘invite’ in to help keep order when he suspends elections, and/or quite possibly the constitution.
these troops are nice enough when we’re backing them up in some foreign insurgency, but if/when they come over here, all that is down the drain, and itll be open season on ‘overfed arrogant Americans’.
    just my thoughts…

I’ve got a post spinning in my head along those same lines.

This is my same thoughts for the big cities, the un can’t be everywhere and smaller places will have to deal with hungry IF word gets out.
That tells me both coasts and the Mississippi WILL be the ones taken over first. Cut off the food supply/stuff. People are easier to control when hungry. Who owns the water supply in these cities? 3 days roughly compared to 30 days roughly.
The only right you have is right this way.

Most folks don’t realize how ridiculously easy it would be to cut road/rail traffic across the Mississippi.
Too many folks stock up on food, ammo, etc., & forget about water–ironic in that lack of water will kill you quicker (I didn’t say lack of clean water). Of course, there’s always bleach.

Honestly, I feel sorry for blue hats that get assigned to the US. Fuckers are gonna die and they will fast realize it. Yamamoto may have not really said that ‘behind every blade of grass’ thing, but theres enough truth in it. Not every American is the pussyfaggotgangsta that the media play us out to be.

If you want to see how a TEOTWAWKI, read up on Pompeii. Most of them just stayed home and waited for help. That’s how we know so much about them.

Food, water, guns, ammo and medical supplies are going to be worth their weight in gold. What you don’t use now you’ll use later. Minimum 2K rounds per center fire long gun, 1k per centerfire handgun. 22 LR? As much as you can stash. The thought that you’ll toss everything into a backpack and start hiking is ridiculous. Think about where you live and what’s within 2-3 days walk of where you’re at. Ideally, you’ll bug in someplace close and safe. Every clown in the world will be out on the roads looking for all sorts of trouble. Best to avoid any contact you don’t need to have.

Got a handgun I trust and a rifle I trust. Sufficient ammo stores. Enough spares to give some away if need be. Family and some friends I trust. Food stores okay, but not sufficient. Out of the way land. Decent and fairly self sufficient neighbors. Tools and skills to trade. Doing fair, and getting better every day. Still could not settle on 3 guns…

  6. Robert says:

My three guns….in order of use…
    3 guns to provide food, 30-30, 30-06, .22
3 guns for defense, AR-15, SKS, Mosin Nagant
    3 guns for home defense, 12g, .40 and 9mm

I can’t afford to stockpile ammo for any more than this AND be able to prep at the same time…
And that’s not counting bills, house upkeep, keeping the wife happy…

Sighs…I gotta start playing the lottery…

  7. Sanders says:

For those who think they will barter their ammo for stuff.

You may want to re-think the idea of giving something to folks who might send it back to you at a high speed.
