    How does one get in that position without the engineer seeing you lying there? Wouldn’t they hit the brakes even if it meant stopping on top of you?

      Stole my answer. The fun part would be if a low hanger got parted by hitting him and put the train into emergency…

    Back in 1979 I was at the rail yard in Roseville CA, I talked to a worker about the ammunition train that blew up there (73 or so), found some shrapnel & took a look under some freight cars.
    What I remember most is the twisted chunks of rusted metal that used to be bombs & the 1″ piece of threaded rod, with a square nut on it sticking down to around 8″ from the ground.
    When I saw that rod I realized that those lying in the tracks while the train ran over you moves were not a good idea.
