Gun porn

Smith & Wesson “Victory” Model 4” 38-Special marked U.S. Navy and shipped from Smith on December 29, 1942 to U.S. Navy in Oakland, California. The holster is WWII issue but the cartridges are Viet Nam era with RA 65 head stamps. Still locks up good and tight. I wonder where it’s been.

I love those skinny grips. They’re much better for recoil control than the fat grips that most handguns sport nowadays. I’ll explain my reasoning in a later post.

I like skinny grips too, but I have problems wrapping my fingers around them for quickly shooting offhand. Its just my method, I’m sure, not a fault with the grip. The handguns are S&W 1917 .45ACP Brazilian contract and an H&R Target Bulldog in .32 H&R Magnum.

What happens is my finger tips contact the hand before a firm grip with gun is made (I can slightly wiggle gun, losing grip consistentcy). I can shoot them fine if I make adjustments, just not something that naturally happens. Probably just need more practice.

Isn’t it amazing how little the basic form of a Smith & Wesson revolver has changed over the years? I guess it goes to show if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

I look forward to your discussion on grip size.

I have a “Pre Model 10” 2 inch. I find that with the slim magnas on it, in MY hand, it points high, and I need to aim much harder… If I put on a set of target grips, it points like a finger.

I love that old grip frame too, works great on my .38’s. And I’d love to own that Victory model also.
However, having dislocated and smashed my right thumb over 40 yrs of construction work, my buddies .45 1917 almost takes my hand apart. The recoil from that steel hump almost leaves me in tears. Then shooting my .45 Colt +P+ Ruger Bisley does nothing as far as pain. My buddies .500 S&W didn’t hurt either. Guess I just won’t own a M1917.
And I can’t stand those fat target grips either, for some reason I feel like I’m gripping a brick. A friend of mine put inserts UNDER his 1911 grips, that was a brick.

  5. this reminded me that there is one of those old girls here in this shop somewhere
it’s not in very good shape but it was a damn good shooter
now i’m going to have to find it haven’t shot it in about 8 years
