Florida arms tax collectors

USA – -(Ammoland.com)- “A Central Florida tax collector says a new policy will allow his employees to openly carry firearms while they work,” The Associated Press reports. “Seminole County Tax Collector Joel Greenberg told the Orlando Sentinel that according to Florida law, he and his employees are considered ‘revenue officers’ and are exempt from the state’s ban on the open carrying of firearms while performing their duties.”

The rationale behind the move is to save taxpayers money by eliminating the need to hire private security.

“Tax collector Joel Greenberg says he is a ‘big believer in the Second Amendment,’” letter to the editor writer Gordon Crawford points out in the Orlando Sentinel. “If that is truly the case, he would know that this constitutional amendment was put in place to protect the public from government tyranny, not to arm the government.”

Good. We need more moving targets.

This probably sounds more like arming the government than it really is. Tax collectors in Florida don’t go around knocking on doors collecting money like a collection agency. Employees of tax collector’s offices here are typically middle aged women or girls just out of high school doing clerical work and selling car tags and hunting licenses. The tax collector’s offices in several counties already have employees who assist people in applying for their concealed weapon licenses so they typically have a pro-gun culture. Its not like they are emulating all the Fe(de)ral agencies and creating their own police forces with SWAT Teams and armored vehicles.

Isn’t arming tax collectors where the Southern term “Revenuer” came from? After the treasury armed enforcement agents to collect and destroy “illegal” stills and other alcohol products, I’m pretty sure a lot of them “got killt”.

Sure & the Moon is made out of Green Cheese. The State is getting worried that the Peasants (US) might be waking up and they are not happy.

The government always has a rationale behind their moves to destroy every little bit more of the freedom of the American people. It usually is either to make us safer or to save us from ourselves. It doesn’t make much difference, either way, the end result is always the same. Tyranny hides itself behind many masks, from both sides of the aisle, and that aisle is getting narrower and narrower every day.

  6. Citizens should be armed, not government employees.
