For four years I hosted college students from foreign students. Of 11 students, 9 were from China, S. Korea, or Japan. I will def say its more than a cultural thing, although there is that to a large extent. I thought is was them trying to incorporate their cultural into the reality of American culture and failing. Shit you not, one kid, 19 yrs, was from a small, rural island offshore the main islands, never been away from home until after a 125 hour flight he shows up at my home. Just imagine the ackwardness.

Corrections; foreign nations. 15 hours, not 125 hours. From small island offshore Japan main islands.

On a side note, I will say the one Polish student was the most arrogant . He was not the most offensive, that would be the muzzy. But that I have held a high regard of the Poles, I was flummoxed by this one who thought because he was pre-doctorate in Astrophysics his word was indisputable. Even in our talks of WWII, he held that Americans do not know the true history, that only he knew the truth. In this and in other subjects was his dismissive attitude apparent. Such is the European mindset. FU Eurotrash.

At least the Asians try to adapt.

When I was married living in Mobile, Al we hosted an exchange student from Norway once, a 17 y/o girl . She was smart, polite and very pretty, she spoke English well and was a pleasure to have around most times . My hair was still black at that time and the wife was blonde hair blue eyed. The exchange student had dark hair and blue eyes and most everybody just assumed she was our child.
She’s 37 now with a family of her own and doing well
