I do like the heater setup…

  2. fredd says:

These guys are geniuses. GM should hire them immediately.

  3. Winston Smith says:

Whats going on in #2? I cant figure that one out.

“If its Stupid and it works, its not Stupid”.

    • Eastwood says:

Using a shower valve from a house to let fuild from the radiator flow through the heater core. Basically it’s replacing the controller on the dash that goes from blue to red.

  4. Sanders says:

Some of those are pretty clever. The heater setup should win some sort of prize for innovation.

    • =T. Wrangler= says:

Back in the good old days cabin temp. was adjusted by a flapper valve to mix outside air thru the heater box. A diverter valve for defrost or floor delivery, and a variable fan completed the simple, reliable system.
      But not anymore.
Freakin’ new cars with automatic climate control are overly complicated nightmares- multiple sensors*, servos, vacuum pots, switches, wiring and some sort of ECU controller.
Each component is a potential failure point. And if one should fuck up after warranty expires, you’re doomed.
The controller can transmit diagnostic codes, accessed via OBD reader.
These will do you little good, but they might be of some use to the service tech.
      Bring lots of money…

*My car has two small sniffers hidden in the headliner. These each have tiny propellers that suck in cabin air for analysis, data used by the control device to set system output parameters. Yikes!

  5. John Deaux says:

    Seems perfectly logical to me

  6. Free Citizen says:

Thanks for the ideas. I can use some of those myself.

  7. Judy says:

    If it works…

  8. Eastwood says:

Number one may be Detroit which makes it perfectly logical. Last one looks a bit unsafe. I’ve lost steering on a vehicle. It’s quite unsettling.

  9. Guairdean says:

I’ve seen the days when every one of those would have been a valid, low cost answer to an expensive problem. My hat’s off to down home engineers everywhere.

  10. Steffen says:

If the Bernie supporting contingent gets to have their way, fixes like these will need to become a way of life, comrade.
