S&W lays off 180

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Smith & Wesson is the largest manufacturing employer in the City of Springfield.

Vice President of Investor Relations Elizabeth Sharp confirmed for us that the company laid off 180 temporary employees earlier this week.

Sharp told 22News all of those employees had worked at their Springfield headquarters.

I wonder if that’s 180 temps or 180 part-timers.

  1. The first layoff was Barack Obama, the worlds best gun salesman.

I smell price reductions/rebates for new purchases. I hope.

Yeah, the market is pretty flooded at the moment, need to get rid of current inventory before they can replace them. I’m also guessing that ‘buying incentives’ will soon be out there.

Anyone here have one of those M & P 2nd generation sporting rifles ? I’m thinking of getting one, the price seems pretty damn reasonable. It would be for plinking and casual shooting, the LE 6920 is always going to be my baby

Either way Part-time or Temp it sounds like a corporate way to avoid paying benefits. With the previous 8 years at maximum production because of the #1 salesman now it is lean times as the market is flooded and totally bottomed out.

I pretty much have all of the guns I want right now. I have no plans to buy anything new but I would like to get rid of some of the safe queens I have but I will wait till it is a sellers market again.

I’m was seeing $100 rebates or price drops on Remington handguns and $50 price drops on SW hand guns in NE Texas. Ammo prices are up again.
