When it rains, it slides

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Crews rescued residents from inundated homes Tuesday as mud and debris from wildfire-scarred hillsides flowed through neighborhoods and onto a key Southern California highway during a powerful winter storm that dropped record rain across the state.

Helicopters were being used even during the downpours because roads were blocked, Santa Barbara County spokeswoman Amber Anderson said.

Shucks, I grew up with stuff like that all the time. I left Kookifornia in 1962, they never learn.

Same thing happened around here in northern Spain a couple of years ago. After a provoked fire in the mountains had done with the trees, a torrential rain caused a huge mudslide right through the coastal villages. Now there is no soil left on the rocks, therefore no new growth of any note.
