Where’s the hippie outrage now?

Pot smokers, beware: The northern spotted owl, the bird that brought down the Pacific Northwest timber industry, is circling California’s newly legalized marijuana market.

A study led by University of California Davis researchers and released Thursday found that two owl species—the northern spotted owl and barred owl—are being exposed to high levels of rat poison from illegal marijuana grows in northern California.

The problem is expected intensify in the wake of California’s Proposition 64, passed in 2016, which legalized recreation marijuana for adults 21 and over and went into effect Jan. 1.

If they’re poisoning the rats, what are the owls going to eat?

Spotted owl fried in peanut oil is very tasty. Don’t ask.

In the 80’s I had a pretty lucrative job in automating sawmills in the Pacific Northwest. Then along comes that fucking owl, the same one the Audubon Society said was not endangered back in the 30s. And then some kind of snail. And then the gray wolf. Oh, and some kind of tern. Fucking tree huggers were actually attempting murder by spiking trees (I’ve stood Very Close to an exploding bandmill, and it’s no fun). So, yeah – tasty.

What was bad was one time I was at my grower’s house in Mendocino County a few years back and he pointed to a bird roosting in a tree and told me that it was one of them spotted owls. When I told him that it couldn’t be because this was second growth Redwoods, he laughed and said “You believe that garbage too?”
Howard worked as a feller until all that shit started.

    • should have eaten the treehuggers instead.
