Unless the guidance system on the incoming missile happens to have been programmed and installed by one of Little Rocket Man’s rocket men. Then all bets on it’s accuracy are off.

    • Peter B says:

Losing a city or two would be bad. But you don’t have to be that accurate for a HEMP (High-altitude Electromagnetic Pulse) weapon. According to the Federation of Atomic Scientists,

“The HEMP effect can span thousands of miles, depending on the altitude and the design and power of the nuclear burst (a single device detonated at an appropriate altitude over Kansas reportedly could affect all of the continental United States.”

There’s a map showing the extent of the effect for explosions at different altitudes in the report.

Take out the computers that run the electrical grid and the gas pipelines, trains, airplanes, the high tech tractors and combines that plow, plant and harvest our wheat, corn and soybeans, run the trucks and trains that bring that stuff to market, not to mention the microprocessors in refrigerators, gas pumps, cars, trucks, you name it, and a lot of the USA could be back in 19th century conditions without 19th century tools and skills.

Projected death of up 90% of the US population within a year from disease, famine and fighting for resources.

Too much about what the Norks would do and very little about Russia and nothing about China.

I doubt at this point that N Korea has the guidance system necessary to hit DC. Any launch by them would be the end of their regime, he’s gotta know this.

“Any launch by them would be the end of their regime, he’s gotta know this.”

Not necessarily, he is surrounded by ‘yes’ people. Anyone with the backbone to tell him he shouldn’t ‘awaken the sleeping giant’ is already dead.

  3. Jonathan says:

Good ideas for a story, but needs more fleshing out and references other than popular media liberal groups like ecfr or Union of Concerned Scientists. Some of their information was outright wrong and others poorly done and focusing on the wrong aspects of the right situation.

    • Elmo says:

I’ll never forget the photo I once saw of Al Gore receiving an award from the Union of Concerned Scientists for his outstanding work on Climate Change. He was so proud.

  4. Kevin says:

If a strike on Tehran would kill 7 million than why would a strike on NYC or Tokyo (more densely populated areas) only kill hundreds of thousands?

  5. Robert says:

I can’t play videos; is there a printed list of those ten places?

I usta live in Rockford, IL as a kid and remember being told a few times that we were definitely one of the places the Russkies would nuke because local company Sundstrand Aviation and our large tool and die industry would be crucial to the US recovery effort. No wonder air raid sirens give me the willies. Duck and cover, kids!
