It’s a sad, sad day

This is one of the hardest posts I’ve ever had to write.

I woke up to some horrible news this morning, news that just staggered me.

Our good friend Angel wrote me to let me know that her oldest daughter Sarah passed away last night in her sleep at 22 years of age.

I can’t imagine how difficult this must be for Angel. She was one of the most devoted mothers I’ve ever known. All of you that have read her writings know that. Her entire life revolved around taking care of her two autistic children.
I’d like to ask that you please keep the family in your prayers during this difficult time, and that you pray that Sarah find peace and comfort in the Lord’s arms.
Thank you.

I do not know the comforting word i could possibly express to help ease her pain. For what little it helps my family will be praying for hers. May God find a way to lift you up out of this darkness. Being a father of five, my mind can not even wrap my head around her great loss. I am sorry, and wish i could comfort her in some way.

I don’t think I’ve cried in forty years. I feel like that”ll change today.

    • Chuck Castagnolo says:

Haven’t cried in many years, but did so today! I haven’t met anyone from either of these two blogs but over the years have become very attached to both. Angel’s moving stories of Sarah and her school prom’s as well as other trials earned her great respect from me and made me feel connected to her and her family. My prayers, and tears, are for her today.

      • Wirecutter says:

I only met the young lady once but feel like I’ve known her all her life from Angel’s blog.

I cannot begin to fathom the depth of Angel’s grief and pain or even have comforting words for her other than I will be praying to God that He provides her comfort and strength in this time of deepest anguish. I am so very sorry, Angel.

  16. Sanders says:

Oh, damn. I’ve watched her blog over the years, and know how devoted she is to her daughters. My prayers are with her and the rest of her family.

  17. NewVegasBadger says:

My deepest sympathies and condolences to Angel and her family on the passing of Sarah. You have my prayers for comfort and peace (and to all who are in morning over this).

At my dad’s funeral (died on 2/5/2002) I recited Kipling’s poem; When Earth’s last picture is painted. I’ve comfort in the gospel song, “Abide with me”. I had tears listening to Hayley Westerna singing it (for some reason the room was very dusty at the time). I’m also comforted with listening to Messiah (Handel) starting with the “Hallelujah chorus” and ending with “Worthy is the Lamb”.
I hope this does help. Again I am very sorry for your loss.

    • pigpen51 says:

Lawless, I studied to become a pastor, at a Bible college in Grand Rapids in 1984 or so. I stayed a year, but I ended up on the same basic path of Rob Bell. God grants us the faith that is strong enough to doubt, and still believe. There is no way that we could walk the path that Angel is walking without God giving us the permission to doubt. And there is also no way that we could continue to live, without God also granting us the freedom to also continue to believe, that He is big enough to hold us in His loving arms. I know that God weeps with us when we suffer, and I know that he is weeping with Angel, at her loss, along with the rest of us.

  40. Viking4_USA says:

Angel and all of you are in our thoughts and prayers.

  41. IslandGirl says:

    I cry.

My mother died one week ago today, in my arms, at home in her bed. That is sad, but not a tradegy, because she was 92.

    This is tragedy.

My condolences, IslandGirl. Loosing your mama always hurts.

    • Padawan says:

My mom’s boyfriend died suddenly a month ago today in her arms too. He was only 60…not much of a spring chicken anymore but still with a lot of spirit. It’s been a hard adjustment for mom (and me too to an extent.) I miss his laugh the most and the way he took care of mom. Hugs to you too IslandGirl.

  42. Phil says:

This is so fucked up It’s off the charts.

Silent tears are falling for Angel.

There are no words in the English language that can convey my sadness and the compassion I am feeling right now.

May God blunt the pain and sorrow, for this is a blow that will last a lifetime.
I am praying for you honey, I know how strong you are but this is a grievous wound.

Angel, my wife and I will be praying for you and the family.

My mother passed away on December 14, 2017 at 89 years old. Even though we are still grieving, our loss does not even compare to losing a young daughter. I can’t imagine the sadness and pain you and your family are going through at this time. Even though I don’t think I ever posted a comment on your blog, it was a daily favorite of mine.

  63. K2 says:

Do Not Stand At My Grave And Weep
    By Mary Elizabeth Frye

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning’s hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.

  77. WrenX says:

  81. Rebecca says:

One of my best friends lost her daughter after a long illness. That was 2 years ago . She fell into a deep depression and has not yet been able to accept it. Every one ,please PLEASE, stay in touch with Angel. This is a dark hole from which one may never recover. Angel needs all the support and companionship she can get. Whether or not she wants it or knows she needs it. This is no time for her to be alone.

    • Judy says:

It was ten years after my daughter died, that one day I noticed I had had a couple of days go by and I hadn’t thought or shed a tear for her. Usually I grieved on the way home from work. Grieving is one foot in front of the other, one day at a time, some days you are fine, other days you need to hide under the covers and sob your eyes out. It takes time, a lot of time. My heart really hurts for Angel.

  82. Old NFO says:

Dammit… Thoughts and prayers for the family.

  83. AbbyS says:

Angel, I just want you to know how very much you are loved. Prayers of support go out to you and your family. I just lost my mom in September after a fast dance with ovarian cancer. I can’t even imagine to pain of loosing a child. And such a special one at that. I will be praying for you as you go thru this struggle. But PLEASE know that you are not alone, even tho it may feel like it at times. We’re all here for you. Don’t worry about being brave, or being the strong one. Go ahead and cry. Or just feel numb. You have a multitude of shoulders to cry on.

    Hugs from afar,

  84. Fred Ziffle says:

Is Sarah’s obituary posted online so that we can learn more about her?

  85. Oswald Bastable says:

To lose any child is a tragedy, but I know first-hand how much energy goes into raising an autistic child. My thoughts are with you at this most difficult time.

  86. Oldfart says:

Sorry, Lady. Kenny’s post hit me like a ton of bricks and believe me when I say I know how you feel. At 83 yrs old I’ve lost kids to birth defects, illnesses and worse. It ain’t easy but when the dark clouds of depression press around you, remember the rest of your family and their need for you. You’re a strong woman and you’ll come through this. I don’t know how I could help but if I can, please call on me. There is no hard evidence that God hears or answers my prayers but I’ll offer some for you and for Sarah.

  87. Bacon says:

Late last Thursday night I was catching up on the week’s posts. Early Friday morning I finally saw the post about Sarah and it floored me.

I was so sad, I just shut down the computer for the weekend. I still don’t have words. May G-d grant comfort and peace to Angel and her family.

    • Wirecutter says:

I had the same reaction. I cancelled my posts for the rest of the day and didn’t put up a single post until Sunday out of respect for Sarah.
