    We had that happen at Knox, in ’77. A HEP (High Explosive Plastic) round exploded in the tube. Ours split the tub and blew about 2 feet of tube downrange. Quite exciting.

      I don’t know it looks like there is a crack there as well.

      That junction is the bore evacuator. It helps eliminate gasses in the barrel so they don’t flood back into the turret.

    We got an M1A2 into the shop with a gun tube like that. Soldiers stuck it into the side of a hill and didn’t clear it before firing the next round.

    An early Soviet 2A46 L48 125mm gun after firing the newer, high pressure 2A46M-x round. They jumped the chamber pressure from 5,100 bar to 6,500 bar. The barrels rupture at the smoke extractor gas ports.
