Hovering while setting one skid on a solid patch of ground is a pretty regular event with Army helicopters. Many pictures of the big CH-47 Chinooks balanced on the rear wheels and the front hanging off a mountain top ledge in Afghanistan while troops load their injured. We did it with Hueys in Vietnam a number of times. Just another day at work. Medical helicopters have to go where the job is and do it with style. As they say in the Huey world, Helicopters hover. Everyone else taxis.

One skid delivery is fairly common on helicopter logging jobs too. On some jobs if the fallers had to hike into their patch it’d be time to head home about the time they got there to start work.

Searched for this image with TinEye, and it returned a reddit about a Norwegian Air Ambulance chopper dropping off a medical crew.

    Mad skills for the pilot.

Now that’s a helicopter driver, check out the clearance between the rotor blades and the pole.

It’s always a joy to see a real equipment operator at work.
