Use iron sights like back in the Old Corps

Officials with the US Marine Corps are stuck between a rock and a hard place, as the service is experiencing shortages of rifle combat optic (RCO) sights due to a combination of factors, a new administrative message obtained by Military.com reveals.

The message, which notes the findings of the 2019 Combat Marksman Symposium, indicates that new recruits at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in South Carolina’s Parris Island and those stationed at The Basic School in Quantico, Virginia, won’t have enough RCOs for training.

I held off buying optics for my M4 for over a year. Got pretty good with the iron sights once I got them adjusted correctly, at least at the 100 yard range (50 yards was better, of course !)

  2. Sanders says:

Wait, are they saying Marines can’t fight now because they don’t have glass optics?

    W T F?

  3. Stretch says:

Screw that! Iron sights … atop an M1 Garand

  4. Sabre22 says:

I never could hit very well with standard iron sights on an M-16A1. Just couldn’t. For some reason? Give me a West German G-3 and I could almost everything I shot at out to 300 meters. I just could not hit with that peep sight but i could with a diopter sight. It is getting warm enough to get to the range here in MT and my shoulder has recovered so it is time to get some shootn in.No heavy recoil for a little longer though so no 338 Lapua.

  5. Jack Crabb says:

Are you telling me that Marine recruits qualify with optics?!?!?!

Geez, the next thing you know they’ll be letting split-tails into the Corps and having them train with the males… oh, wait a minute.
