Teacher gave boy with autism ‘most annoying award’

(Meredith) – An Indiana father said he was in disbelief when a teacher gave his 11-year-old son, who is autistic, an award for “most annoying male.”

Rick Castejon told the Times of Northwest Indiana that a special education teacher presented the trophy last month during an awards ceremony for fifth-graders at Bailly Preparatory Academy in Gary.

Parents who attended the event fell silent as the boy received his award.

Yeah I was amazed more at the parents who found it humiliating for the child……….and then paraded the kid and his stupid prize on TV.

I’m probably going against the grain here, but I bet he was annoying.

I think I’d have told her “I’m gonna stick this up your ass later!”

While they never gave me my awards, I’m pretty sure I earned quite a few of those in my early years. I had obnoxious down to a science by the time I hit Kindergarten: Hell, I was even expelled from Nursery School.

    Was I picked-on in school?

Nope; it was one advantage of sitting up front, frantically flailing my arms at every question.

“I know this one! Pick me! Pick me!”

The only rewards I received was to sit at my desk put out in the hall (of shame) or visits with the principal’s magic paddle of disciplinary arts.

Same here until I grabbed the principle’s hand at about 4th grade and said to him, no more. I told him I would plant a fist in his face if he did… big farm kid and was hefting 150 pound bales of oat-hay and alfalfa by then. The desk, I found it made the most horrendous screeching sound pushing with my feet backward, that stopped that.

I have an autistic grandson, and he’s only annoying if you refuse to give him the teevee remote.

I got banned from one of the play areas in Kindergarden, teachers wouldn’t teach me to read, does that count for anything?

Thankfully my parents refused to let them drug me up with shit that later caused autism in a lot of kids.

So was there an award for “Most Annoying Female”?

It doesn’t matter if the kid WAS annoying. Giving such an “award” is unprofessional if you are a special education teacher. Particularly since it sounds like the boy in question wasn’t deliberately trying to be a pain in the ass; he was just wired up funny from birth. Not his fault.

And trying to play it off as a joke after being called out is just cowardice. I despise passive-aggressive cowards.

Play nice.
