Thanks a bunch, Kate – that’s 60+ people out of work

Portland-based Stimson Lumber announced today that it will lay off at least 60 people at its Forest Grove mill—40 percent of the workforce there—and move some of its operations to Idaho and Montana.

Stimson CEO Andrew Miller presented the layoffs as a direct response to three environmental and tax policies championed by Oregon Gov. Kate Brown. He cited a $1 billion-a-year tax increase to fund schools passed by the Oregon Legislature this month; a 2015 Clean Fuels Program requiring reduced carbon emissions, and a cap and trade package currently under consideration.

Miller said all three of those policies raise costs for his timber business.

Gee, let’s just add more enviro-wacko regulation to one of our main state industries. Ms. Brown is an idiot in the same vein as AOC (who still thinks chasing off Amazon was a win.)

  2. woodsterman says:

That’s the dems answer to everything … Tax, tax, tax!

  3. Sarthurk says:

Kate is a fucking socialist asshole bitch. And in my opinion, that’s a compliment.

  4. Jeremy says:

Or, hopefully, 60+ people moving OUT of Oregroan.

    • Unclezip says:

Most of the people in question have no recourse. They live in the nearby small towns of Gaston, Cherry Grove, Forest Grove, Banks, and Cornelius. The jobs lost are all full-time with full benefits.

Stimson is a great company, husbanding its lands with great care. The anti-lumber, anti-hunting, anti-fishing progressives, mostly immigrants from Califruitopia, have ruined this pretty state.

      • Elmo says:

To them, resource extraction is a dirty term. Even when it’s a resource that is actually completely renewable, captures carbon while in the process of renewing itself and is capable of generating the very electricity it take to process it from a log to a board.

  5. Cederq says:

I am from Oregon and I can tell all those commiefornia weenies and tax and spend liberals have ruined Oregon. It is become a antibusiness state wanting only to preserve the environment at the expense and depredation of the people.

    • Sarthurk says:

I’ve lived in Oregon since 1956, and I can recall my parents and
other adults talking about the Kalifornians in the 60’s. Back then I didn’t know of anyone who moved to the Rogue valley from Kali. Most came from the east coast.
My parents moved there shortly after they married. A Marine Vet/Forestry Engineer, and a Registered Nurse.
      What could go wrong?

      ME !

And then the Kalifornicators came en masse to my home state. And It’s a been a bitch ever since. The freaks go and legislate the very things they were supposedly trying to get away from.
And it’s gotten very much worse.
I live somewhere in the brush along a bay, somewhere. It rained / drizzled a bit today. Everything is green and wet.
Unfortunately, the leftist greenies are all around here. But they are just barely smart enough to behave themselves.
      . . . . so far.

  6. Elmo says:

Andrew Miller nailed it. And Kate Brown’s response will be “Don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out of MY state, you tree murdering bastard”.

  7. Unclezip says:

The tax in question is horrible – a tax on gross receipts. A lot of small businesses, which run on a slim profit margin, will go under as the tax burden wipes out all profits (and then some).

Nine times the legislature was voted down on a sales tax, and even this tax, under a different name. Luckily, there’s a suit to bring this one up for a vote by the people.

  8. somedue says:

Come on over to Montana. We welcome you. We have rural folk here that voted for the Democrat Testor. I tell them name me one Democrat held area the supports ranching, logging!

  9. brighteyes says:

So in two years or less half of Oregon will burn down. Then the Dems. will be asking for Federal Dollars to rebuild. Lumber Companies do not cut down all the trees. It’s their livelihood. They cut and replant. They keep the forest floor clean. Dems after watching Calif. burn still have not figured this out. This is beyond stupid.

    • crazyeighter says:

Rest assured, no matter when Oregon’s trees light off, the blame will be laid at the feet of Donald Trump.

    • Sarthurk says:

The stupid is, that is Kate Brown and most directors of state management operations ,are at least as corrupt as she is. This shit has been going on for decades. Perpetuated by mostly Kali cowards.
Kate Brown. Born in Spain, grew up in Minnesota. A lawyer, say no more. She doesn’t represent the constituents of the state, and is apparently some sort of sexual deviate, to boot.
      How wonderful.

  10. Dan says:

Occasionally-Conscious was PROUD of driving Amazon, hundreds of jobs and millions in revenue out of New York. I have no doubt Gov. Brown I just as happy to see this evil capitalist take his company elsewhere.

  11. Just a Chemist says:

The whole POINT of these kind of laws/taxes IS TO MAKE PEOPLE LOOSE THEIR JOBS. Once folks loose their job, the reasoning goes, they will be on the gov. dole. Once they are on whatever soul-stealing handout program, they the sick fucks in charge believe they will vote to keep the socialistic gravy-train rolling. It has already been done (quite successfully) in the inner-city black community and in Appalachia.
