Happy Moon Day! – STM

The first Moon landing was 50 years ago today (yesterday – KL). We’re celebrating today with Moon cookies (chocolate chip cookies with the chips mushed in while they are warm, making little craters). We should be celebrating today on the Moon itself, but the globalist stooges Nixon, , and Carter put an end to that.

Prior to the landings, a proposed Space Launch System (not the wimpy rebranded Shuttle version of SLS or current SLS concepts) would leverage the existing designs of the Apollo program to re-use the Saturn V third stages, and derive new designs from that stage, to implement a number of elements that would remain in space. One of these elements was to be a nuclear-powered tug that would ferry cargoes between Earth orbit and lunar orbit, needing only reaction mass to be resupplied periodically (hence the use of the third stage tanks).

I was just a kids when I watched the moon landing on a B&W TV – will never forget.

Now we have “progressed” to the point that there are unwashed vegans on the far far left who believe the moon is flat.

  2. De Oppresso Liber says:

    Also……..R.I.P. Mary Jo

Her murder by Dead Ted got overshadowed because of the Moon Landing.

    • crazyeighter says:

The day Mary Jo took one for the team and killed any chances for Ted Kennedy to become President.

I propose we rename it “America Dodged a Bullet Day”.

    • Beans says:

We didn’t need them anymore. We already had designs on the drawing board for everything from a more powerful Saturn to a more powerful F1 engine to new capsules to space tugs and nuclear powered (think super-steam) upper stages to buried moon bases. All using late 60’s tech. All ready to be manufactured, all ready to be used. But we stopped cold after Apollo 17.

The Nazis we had would have been able to retire after we got most or all of it into space and working.

Little known fact: The Saturn 5 was overbuilt for just launching to the moon. Way too heavy. It was designed to be the carrier for missions after the moon, like launching nuclear upper stages, space station components (think Skylab, except 6-12 skylabs all linked together in a wheel) and even Mars missions. Von Braun was thinking way ahead of just ‘to the moon.’

  3. Flight Erdoc says:

Despite the common wisdom that it was Nixon who cancelled the moon project, it was really Johnson and the 1967 Congress, when they stopped funding long-lead time items for additional moon missions.

The plan was always to have 6 manned missions on the Moon: Apollo 11-17, Apollo 13 of course was a near disaster. There were 3 more missions kinda sorta planned (18-20) but never completed.

    • the other other Andrew says:

We used Apollo 18 to 20 on Skylab and Apollo-Soyuz, all because, well, we already had them built.

    • Larry says:

Yep. Layoffs started within a couple of weeks of Apollo 11’s return.

  4. Gryphon says:

There was a determined campaign to Drive Out the ‘nazis’ from the Space Program, led by the (((usual suspects))). Dr. von Braun and Arthur Rudolf (the Saturn-V guy) were driven out of the program because they had been building V2 Missiles for the German Army during the War. After the Key People in the Program (many others than these two) were Driven Out, the Technical Leadership and Discipline was Lost, and the result was the “Space Shuttle” and the two Fatal Crashes that were Directly Connected to the Degradation of Engineering Standards for what amounted to Budgetary reasons. Now we have for a ‘space program’ such Diverse Farces as Elon Musk and Richard Branson trying to ‘commercialize spaceflight’ with Systems that are so far less Capable than what was used 50 years ago as to be a Joke (on the investors, mostly)

Want to Go to Space? Go to Russia, get on a Soyuz Crew Capsule and a Rocket that is the Same Hand-Built Technology from 50 Years ago. They continued to Upgrade what Works, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see them using some form of Nuclear Propulsion System, derived from some of the things they have developed for their Air Force.

The U.S. 'space program' has been Destroyed and isn't coming back, because the entire Aviation Industry has been 'internationalized' and 'financialized' to the point that the Collective Knowledge, Skills and Tools to do it Properly are gone form the U.S. Junk like the F-35 and the Boeing 737'Max' are what is out there now, with Chinese Electronics and Indian H-1B 'coders' writing the Software.

And Remember, if you look at any Pictures or Videos from the Apollo Project, mostly all you see are White Men, as Nobody Else was capable of doing things like that.

  5. Nemo says:

The USA is the only country to land men on the moon and safely return them to earth using machines that were designed with slide rules.

Smart phones when originally introduced had orders of magnitude more computing power than the Apollo Nav computers.

Ask India and Israel how easy it is to safely land instrument packages on the moon (hint: both of their recent attempts crashed during landing).

Last night I watched “First Man”, a movie that purports to show Neil Armstrong’s journey to the lunar surface. Worst piece of trash, supposedly documenting some aspects of the space program, I’ve EVER seen. Armstrong was characterized in a VERY poor way. That’s Hollywierd for ya. Trying to trash an American hero’s reputation just because they can and changing the historical narrative right before people’s eyes that saw it happen LIVE. Then they wonder why people aren’t flocking to the theaters any more.

  6. MadMarlin says:

You want to see some irritating liberal globalists rewrite of history. Where’s the flag? Sorry fuckers have infiltrated every agency. These posters were the official NASA posters.

  7. Jeremy says:

By now, the flags planted on the lunar surface have been bleached white by the sun. The next people to visit our largest satellite will think it was claimed by France.

  8. Mike_C says:

    @Nemo, MadMarlin, Gryphon:
The real brains behind the space program were finally revealed in 2016. It was three sassy black women who got John Glenn into orbit. White men with slide rules my hairy ass.
It says so in IMDB! The people who run Hollywood and most of the Newsmedia would never, ever lie to us. And forget that “globalist” talk. That’s some kind of anti-something something Hate Think there. And a libel, because you (better pretend that you) know that America comes first in the hearts and minds of those people. Get your brain right, boys.

Hidden Figures: Three brilliant African-American women at NASA — Katherine Johnson (Taraji P. Henson), Dorothy Vaughan (Octavia Spencer) and Mary Jackson (Janelle Monáe) — serve as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in history: the launch of astronaut John Glenn (Glen Powell) into orbit, a stunning achievement that restored the nation’s confidence, turned around the Space Race and galvanized the world.

Play nice.
