Macon County man injured by making bomb

MACON COUNTY, TN (WSMV) – The THP Bomb Squad and ATF are assisting the Macon County Sheriff’s Department in diffusing a confirmed pipe bomb that was located in the garage of a home on Rocky Mound Road.

The incident began around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday. The girlfriend of 30-year-old Cecil Masters drove him to a nearby ambulance base, and told officials that Masters was loading shotgun shells and had blown his hand up.

Yeah well, the ‘detonations’ I heard in the Twitter video sounded like primers snapping off to me, not a pipe bomb.

Any farm kid with an interest in chemistry can make one hell of a bomb with a length of cotton twin, a pringles can, a paint stir stick some diesel fuel, and ammonium nitrate.

If he also shows an aptitude for electronics, look out!

Just wait until said kid turns out to be a computer geek and joins Uncle Sam’s Misguided Children.

If you look at ATF’s annual report on explosives incidents in the US, the vast majority of incidents involve either bomb making literature or ammunition, not actual bombs.
I suspect they are willing to turn out any time local LEO ask them to so their count looks better.

sigh “Defusing”. The writer had to have a university degree to get the job.

    I weep for the future.

Won’t it kind of diffuse itself? Wouldn’t defusing it be better?

  6. Fred says:

I thought it DID diffuse itself – and parts of its maker as well. But with “journalism” today, who can tell?

Play nice.
