The left, language, and political change

The left recognized early on that changes in language are not superficial, and it became a big tool of theirs.

“Moving the Overton Window” is another name for the goal of the process, which is to change public perceptions of what is acceptable and what is radical. There are many ways the left accomplishes this, but a highly important one is through language.

I want to highlight the observations in this recent comment at my blog:

The left continues to rely heavily on the simpleton approach of name calling.

If it’s stupid and it works, it’s not stupid. Their childish stuff works rather better than the Right’s approach of surrender and collaboration. The Left may be idiot crybabies, but our side has been losing to them for going on a century now.

      • Bacon says:

You identitied the problem but skipped the critical reason why we’ve been losing to them. If we lower ourselves to their level, then we become just like them. This is a case of the cure being even worse than the disease. We have to be better than them, especially when it’s absolutely fucking inconvenient. Acting with integrity is not optional.

The People of NC moved the Overton Window last night and stuck it right where the sun don’t shine on the left.

Typically, all of the Never Trumpers are all over the MSM morning hot air shows condemning “Send Her Back” and calling for Trump to walk it back. I imagine if traitor McStain were still alive he’d be shouting for Trump’s head from the top of the statue on the Capital building this morning.

IMHO, Trump is playing this exactly right. I predict at least two of the four sqawdies won’t be returning for the 116th Congress.

Not to worry; Willard’s gonna get right on that…

Seems reasonably likely; however, that does nothing to guarantee that their replacements will be better. Like as not, we’ll get two more crazies. If we’re lucky, they’ll still be incompetent crazies, but, the voters might elect competent (at least marginally so) crazies.

some of us have more of it our lives than others.

Whoever controls the meaning of words controls the conversation.

    • FaCubeItches says:

More than that – we think in terms of language. If you control language, you control thought.

Play nice.
