Your Monday Morning Florida Report

(Meredith) – A Florida man decided to stand near a busy intersection on Sunday to expose a panhandler who turned down a job offer.

Ryan Bray said he saw a homeless man begging for money on the side of the road in Bradenton, about 46 miles south of Tampa. When the panhandler approached his car, Bray offered him $15 an hour to do yard work, the Bradenton Herald reported.

“He said, ‘Absolutely not, I’m not doing that,’” Bray told the newspaper. “I didn’t give him any money and rolled up my window and he kicked my tire.”

I used to carry around McDonald’s gift certificate books, back when you could get a meal for five bucks, to hand out to beggars and every once in a while you’d run across one that was insulted by that (couldn’t but their thunderbird or pay for their Mercedes with it)

Yup, been there, done that. Guy holding a sign: “will work for food”. Offered him some light yard work: “oh, I got this bum knee”. Well, I have some stuff you won’t have any trouble, here’s the address. Never showed, of course.

Offer food directly, they want money. I’ve had a direct offer of food accepted exactly once. And once, a woman let me buy her some groceries instead of wanting cash.

The shame is: I’m sure there are people who really do just need a helping hand. But finding them among all the alkies and druggies and just damned lazy? That’s hard. It’s easiest just to blow them all off…

A friend of mine got rear ended hard at a green light once when the car in front of him suddenly slammed on his brakes to hand one of those lazy assholes some cash. My friend ended up bumping the back end of the car in front of us. Here in Manchester NH the ACLU has successfully sued the city several times in favor of these asswipes, AFTER helping the city develop laws against panhandling in the city.

Typical, full of talk about his “rights” but nothing about responsibility. There is no sin in letting the panhandles starve as he has had opportunity to feed himself and refused to work.

Well, considering some of them can make $50-$100 an Hour panhandling at a Busy Intersection, Why Should they “Work”, as they have a good-paying ‘job’ right there… Around Here, the Cops will Bust them if they are getting in the Way of Traffic, but the ‘regulars’ that I See seem to be pretty Careful. I still won’t give them a Dime though.

Play nice.
