“Pay up or we’re outta here”

The American ambassador to Germany, Richard Grenell, has threatened Germany with a partial withdrawal of US troops.

“It’s really offensive to expect US taxpayers to continue to pay more than 50 000 Americans in Germany, but Germans use their trade surplus for domestic purposes,” Grenell told dpa.

In recent months, the dispute between Berlin and Washington over defense spending by the German Federal government has worsened further. The US government insists on compliance with the NATO two-percent target.

Let’s see, option a) Germany starts getting their act together and pays their way (however unlikely). Option b) the U.S. Starts removing groups to Poland, providing a barrier against Russian plans but also buffer ing Poland and eastern bloc against the impending downfall of globalist Europe. Option b would also have the advantage of helping destabilize Germany and rising the likelihood of an open populist revolt. Either way we win. That said if you think the Germans are screaming and posturing now, see what happens if the U.S. actually does start moving men and resources. Many stations there have already started the narrative that the President is doing this in league with Russia. As Germany is hammered for non payment, look for those same arguments in our news media.

    Couple of notes:
1- The current administration in Germany has made it clear that they have no intention of ever putting up the full 2%, no matter what- including public statements to that effect, full of indignation that we should even dare ask them to fulfill their treaty requirements..
2- Germany is the largest economy in Europe and fifth largest in the world. Their industrial sector is well developed, they have a decent education system, and they have plenty of “workers”. There’s absolutely nothing keeping them from building and maintaining a decent military… except that they think they can get us to do the fighting for them, and act as a source of graft in the meantime.

Screw the Germans. They can take care of themselves. We can defend Europe just fine from Poland.

I think having troops stationed in Germany is a good investment.
In the 1900’s we fought two wars and still have over 104,000 Americans buried in Europe from having to put a lid on Germany.
We’ve left troops stationed in Germany since 1945 and have not had any more of the earlier “German” problems.
I’d say leaving the troops there has been a good investment!

Pay up? Chances slim. So if I was the General I’d go to Plan-B and settle for Angela Merkel getting the full Epstein treatment.

Keeping the Rooshins out of Germany is for Frau Merkel’s benefit, not ours.

  5. Tsquared says:

I wonder how much VAT tax US troops and contractors pay each year.

  6. WDS says:

Frau Merkel says it costs an arm and a leg to continue importing and supporting the people that will take down her country

The NATO agreement is very simple. Sure the US will help you with the defense of your country. Here’s the deal: We pay the wages of the servicemen, We will provide their weapons & equipment needed. YOU WILL provide everything else. Your choice. – It is after all, YOUR country……
Oh you don’t like those terms! See Ya, have a nice day…….
And it needs be no more complicated than that……

When I lived in Germany, one of the towns had been pussyaching about the presence of the local American base for years. Then it got shuttered as part of the budget cuts/base closures of the early 90s. Suddenly the town was demand that the US government pay them to make up for the loss of income that they’d been getting from all of the soldiers.

I’d be surprised if that was the only time something like that had happened.

    • WDS says:

It wasn’t, look what happened to the Filipino economy around the island of Luzon when they closed Clarke AFB

    • Crustyrusty says:

I was one of the last troops out of Zwei in 1991 when it closed, you should have heard the bitching and moaning about us leaving, after 45 years of “Amis Raus!”

l would be HAPPY to see united states TARGETS removed from my country, you are not “protecting me” any more than the MAFIA “protects” business’s it demands money with menace from.
Russia nor China have over 800 military bases OUTSIDE their own BORDERS, and truth be told, it’s closer to over 1000 when you count the “secret” rendition bases etc. The world has more to fear from you lot than from the “concocted enemy” your “leaders” keep telling y’all are “out to get the united states”, maybe if ur leaders weren’t A+ grade ARSEHOLES, (We lie, we cheat, we steal, it’s what we are trained to do. Mike pompous. Or better yet, “It’s God’s fault that he put AMERICAN oil in other peoples countries”. D Rumsfeldt),
the world wouldn’t be HATING on the ugly American persona y’all keep presenting to us if you stopped BEING so ugly.
NATO is nothing more than a weapon selling racket, the F-35 “never fly” being the most obvious example. The annual maintenance (carried out by BOEING reps not your own military personell) costs exceed the billion dollar price tag just for the overpriced yard art.
Russia left Berlin under the proviso that the united states, sorry “NATO” (pity l cannot type in sarcastic), would not move any further east. and what did you do? rip up ANOTHER agreement, and moved troops EAST!! direct provocation of Russia.. but yeah, y’all keep bleating how those “damned commies/Dirty Ruskies/fuckin reds” are the ones trying to “occupy Europe”.
fuck ya make me so angry sometimes, l spose its living in a echo chamber and getting force fed propaganda your whole lives.
ps hows your socialized farming sector handling the “sanctions war”, l say socialized because now your government is paying farmers to grow.. its SOCIALISM GUYS!!! just like your military.. the jokes on y’all the united states is pretty much becoming the biggest socialist country on the planet. (give you subsidize your military by 3/4’s of your annual budget.)
name ONE, just ONE international agreement/treaty that the united states has EVER…EVER.. honored until it expired… just one will do…

  10. Nemo says:

Screw ’em. We should have been entirely out of Europe at least 50 years ago. These commie pukes in Europe, I’m thinking France in particular, would all be speaking German or Russian if wasn’t for us TWICE last century. Are they grateful? Hell no. So screw ’em let them face down the Russian bear on their own for a while and let them see how well they do without us footing all of their defense bills.

  11. Sanders says:

Once the Warsaw Pact dissolved, NATO lost any reason to exist. Should have pulled out of Europe then.

  12. Alex Lund says:

Have you forgotten the words of the first head of NATO, Lord Ismay: The NATO exists to keep the americans in, the russians out and the germans down.

No, under Mama Merkel Germany will never pay the 2% because we need the money for the cultural enrichers with their knives etc.

But let me get this straight: We Germans never wanted to host the next muslim meeting. But we had to open our borders back in the 60 because Turkey wanted a place were to put their surplus population. And the US wanted Turkey into NATO. So somebody had to pay the price.

And to the Argument, that our economy is big and stable:According to our newspapers we are heading for a recession and all you can read is about companies firing employees.

Play nice.
