Paybacks are a bitch

(Meredith) – Moments after a hunter shot a deer in Arkansas, the animal got up and attacked him in a tragic twist of fate, according to wildlife officials.

Thomas Alexander, 66, shot the deer with a muzzleloader in Yellville, about 102 miles east of Fayetteville, on Tuesday, KY3 reported.

He then approached the deer to check if he had killed it, according to Keith Stephens, a spokesperson for the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission.

I met Larry Weishuhn the other day. He had some good stories. One was when on a hunting trip his vehicle rolled over and he was impaled by a tine of the stag he had shot. The antler missed his spine by a millimeter or so. Even so, he was bleeding pretty bad but the good news was he got the proper medical attention lickety split.

You kill a deer in Arkysaw, it will kill your ass right back.

Dang, that’s bad luck. Heard those stories all my life, and always made sure my game was dead before getting too close.

I wonder if he got too complacent, or if he was careful and got nailed, anyway?

In the past, I’ve manhandled two live white tails in Texas and they are far from the superhero animals that I’ve seen people write up. Of course, Texas deer are the size of big dogs.

Everyone around him should be buying lottery tickets because them some crazy odds. The probability is up there with getting killed by your own stick figure drawing.

i was taught to NEVER approach a down animal from the front. if it gets up and you are in the way this type of thing can happen. You should approach it from the rear or back bone side and get a look at the eyes if they are NOT glazing over or glazed over Shoot it again. Animals very rarely close their eyes when they die. So if the eyes are closed chances are very good it it still alive so shoot it again. The old saying of it’s the DEAD ones that get up and KILL YOU does NOT just apply to African animals.

“The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, which investigated the incident, is reminding hunters to make sure a deer is not moving for about 30 minutes before approaching it.”

Or cap it one between the eyes.

Neck shots. Head shot if you’re sure and good enough. Center mass neck shot = broken spine = dead right fucking there right fucking now.
