DC mayor: All shoppers at grocery stores must wear masks

Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser (D) is directing all grocery stores and food markets in the city to require customers to wear face masks before entering.

The order, which Bowser released on Twitter Wednesday night and discussed during a news conference Thursday, also requires all farmers’ markets in the city, including the D.C. seafood market, to apply for waivers in order to continue operations. Those waivers will only be granted to markets that provide plans for enforcing social distancing guidelines.

Just before my bank closed their lobby down and made everybody start using the drive through window, I was inside filling out a deposit slip when a woman walked in wearing a particle mask and a handgun on her hip and all I could think of was, “Damn, I love small-town Tennessee”.

In my city, the only places you can go outside without a mask is your residence property and personal vehicle driving. Other than that, you are required to wear a mask or face a possible $1000 fine.

But I see plenty of people openly walking without them. Last night, waiting at an intersection to change to green, I saw a family unit of three riding bikes, the opposite side teenage joggers and on opposite side of street, a couple walking. All without masks. I guess breathing through those during exercise is too much work.

I hate the masks myself, steams up my glasses. I read that cleaning lenses with shaving cream, wiping off excess and allowing to air dry will prevent that fogging up. I shave dry in shower so have no cream to use. And damned if I am going to get a can just for that – I’m a cheap bastard !
